Phil Somers

Phil graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in IT from St. Francis Xavier University in 1994. Upon graduation, he obtained a position with Revenue Canada in Ottawa as a system analyst working in a mainframe COBOL environment. After two years of COBOL coding, Phil moved to Revenue Canada’s CANPASS program as a database administrator working with MS SQL Server/Sybase running on Windows. He continued to progress his DBA experience when he moved from Revenue Canada into the private sector in Toronto, working with Oracle 8i on UNIX for a company that provided online property tours to various realtors. Phil joine Maritime Life in 2003 as a Senior DBA, working primarily with Sybase/Windows. In 2006, Phil joined AOL as a Senior DBA, working with Sybase/Linux in a replicated database environment. Phil’s current DBA administration responsibilities at NewPace are focused on Oracle 10gR2 RAC running on Linux RHELS.
