Gavin Murphy

Vice-President & Chief Technology Officer

Gavin has been a software developer for over 17 years. Following his graduation from the Technical University of Nova Scotia with a Bachelor of Computer Science, he spent four years with Nortel working on telephony software, primarily test tools for Advanced Intelligent Networks.

Gavin returned to Nova Scotia and spent one year working with a PRIOR Data Sciences performing military software development, before joining InfoInteractive/AOL in 1999 as a Senior Software Engineer working on Interactive Voice Response systems.

As a software engineer (both at Nortel and AOL), he has developed extensive knowledge of telephony applications and protocols, including SIP, RTP, ISDN/ISUP, PRI, CNAM, and AIN/CS-1, all developed in C++ on a UNIX platform. He served as the lead developer on various AOL voice products, including AOL Total Talk, AIM Phoneline, and AIM Call Out, and was instrumental in the design of the E911 portion of the AIM Phoneline product.

At AOL Gavin rose to the position of Manager of Core software development team where he was responsible for all of the telephony application development, as well as most of the low-level software libraries. In 2007 he advanced to manage the entire software development and QA team, where he successfully led the development of the AIM Call In product.
